Tell us briefly about yourself and the digital media property you represent.

I am Lana Ramahi, the Content Manager at Mawdoo3.com. I joined Mawdoo3 team in early 2014 and previous to that, I was a civil engineer. I joined Mawdoo3 because I am very passionate about the Arabic language.

Mawdoo3.com is the world's largest Arabic site, with more than 28 million unique browsers every month. We are the top online source for knowledge and information for Arab users, with more than 100,000 articles of original, high-quality, written and visual content. Our portal covers a range of topics including, cooking, nutrition, health, life and society, sport and more.  Mawdoo3 attracts Arab readers and internet users who are looking for the reliable information in Arabic.

Mawdoo3.com is also the world's first Arabic site. Since we started in 2012, we have evolved in many ways but consistently delivered premium content to our community. We have morphed since then to be more than a content company, but a data and technology company too, especially now that we're investing in the field of artificial intelligence to cater to a more diverse readership. 

 

What do you believe is the biggest challenge for digital media in the Arab world?

Compared to the global media market, the media industry in the Middle East is lagging behind. Even though digital media is becoming more popular, traditional media still dominates our industry. Online is growing rapidly, and advertisers need to catch up and start paying attention to the opportunities in local digital platforms.

Despite this, we cannot deny that the Arab world is already starting to experience a considerable shift away from traditional to digital media. 

Advertising through Mawdoo3 platform gives advertisers the advantage of targeting their audience according to their geography, interest, gender and age; and by knowing what they actually read. This results in a better experience for both the advertiser and the reader.

 

What is going to be your focus for the next 12 months?

Finding trustworthy sources of information in the Arabic digital content field is the greatest challenge we are facing in the Arab world. Our focus will be to continue to maintain and enhance the current content we own.

Mawdoo3 is also entering the field of artificial intelligence by exploring Articifial Intelligence-based language processing products. This new technology, in particular its text-to-speech and speech-to-text abilities will change the game for the Arab world. We can finally cover all Arabic dialects; in spite of how diverse they are.

Big Data (Premium insights), is also a focus as it fuels AI; Mawdoo3 analyze the data set we own to provide advertisers with insights that can be used to give a competitive advantage to their content, products and services. 

 

Are you advertising to the Middle East? Target audiences in the region by demographics behaviour and more with our audience segments, available from Google DBM, The Trade Desk and MediaMath. We also build custom audience segments.
